New Hat Making Workshop at Wingtip

Wednesday, October 18th, 2012

=  Weather is Sunny and warm!

= 1 cup ‘o coffee

= 6 hats worked on, 1 custom straw ordered this morning.

We’ve had hats at a men’s store and club down town for a while now known as ‘On The Fly’. On The Fly has finally made the leap they’ve been dreaming of for years, moving into the old Bank of Italy, taking over four floors, and rebranding to the name Wingtip.

Bank of Italy aka Wingtip!

The building is miraculous with all of the original brass and marble located at 550 Montgomery x street Clay. On street level it’s a ready to wear men’s store complete with shoe shining and a barber. In the basement, next to the beautiful old vault is a custom shop. There’s a tailor, custom suit ordering and us, Paul’s Hat Works, we will be making custom hats on site here.

I’ve spent the past week building new work tables for us in the metal shop over at Cellspace, as well as setting up and loading in tools and supplies. I had many great helpers. It’s now officially a working shop and starting in November you’ll ideally be able to find one of us hatters there Tuesday-Friday. Here’s a little photolog of building the new work tables and the assembly of the space.
